Olivier Rousteing is leaving Balmain. After fourteen years of transforming the house into an icon of glamour and power, the designer is turning the page.

It's curtains for one of fashion's most flamboyant duos...Balmain and Olivier Rousteing are parting ways. The announcement was made on Wednesday, November 5, 2025, on Instagram. After fourteen years of bold designs, sculpted shoulders, and glamour calibrated to the millimeter, the prodigy is leaving the house that made French pop culture's heart beat.

Arriving in 2011 at just 25 years old, he was the youngest creative director of a major Parisian fashion house since Yves Saint Laurent at Dior, and the first Black designer to head a historic French fashion house. In the blink of an eye, Rousteing transformed Balmain into a dream machine: a conquering "Balmain Army," an aesthetic of power and glitter, stars in couture armor—from Rihanna to Kim Kardashian—and fashion shows that became veritable festivals.

Under his leadership, Balmain saw its turnover increase tenfold, reaching nearly €300 million, while reviving couture, launching a beauty line with Estée Lauder, and proving that elegance also goes hand in hand with boldness and diversity.

At 40, Olivier Rousteing is bowing out, leaving behind a legacy carved in gold and confidence. Balmain, meanwhile, promises to announce a new creative organization soon.
