Urban forests are gradually taking root in the capital, bringing a splash of greenery and fresh air during the summer where it’s often lacking. After initiatives at Place de la Catalogne and the City Hall forecourt, it’s now the Place du Colonel Fabien, nestled between the 10th and 19th arrondissements, that is being transformed into a greener haven. The project includes planting a forest of 43 mature trees and 75 shrubs to create a tranquil space. The construction work is expected to be completed by February 2026.
Bike lanes and pedestrian zones are gradually transforming the area to encourage eco-friendly transportation, especially since the Colonel Fabien metro station is just nearby. Despite ongoing construction that has been affecting residents for over a year, this new green space is expected to offer a more pleasant environment for families in the neighborhood, with clearing areas and a woodland-like atmosphere.
As a reminder, urban forests are meant to provide benefits for residents, including cooling the area and reducing temperatures during heatwaves, capturing carbon, and preserving biodiversity within cities.
