While the C1 Cable has been delighting numerous residents of Val-de-Marne since December 13, Île-de-France Mobilités is considering restarting studies for a second urban cable car project in the Île-de-France region. This new line would connect Vélizy in Yvelines to Pont de Sèvres in the Hauts-de-Seine.

Who would have thought they could someday soar over four communes in Val-de-Marne aboard a cable car? Not many. Yet, since December 13, 2025, residents of this Île-de-France department can travel from Créteil to Villeneuve-Saint-Georges in just 18 minutes by air. The Cable C1, the first cable car system in Île-de-France and also the longest urban cable car in Europe, has been delighting users since its launch. Just last January 7, following a heavy snowfall, the Cable C1 even took on the look of a mountain cable car, much to the joy of its passengers!

So, can residents of Île-de-France look forward to seeing more urban cable cars like this in the near future? That’s certainly the hope of Valérie Pécresse. As reported by Actu.fr, the President of the Île-de-France region has started dreaming of a second cable car line. “We’re daring to dream of a Vélizy – Pont de Sèvres cable that would help avoid the N118,”” she announced during her New Year’s speech to Île-de-France Mobilités on January 14.

For now, it's still just a dream and a possibility. However, Île-de-France Mobilités may reconsider studying this project, according to our colleagues at France 3 Paris - Île-de-France. The proposed cable car would connect Pont de Sèvres in Hauts-de-Seine to Vélizy in Yvelines. It would link up with Vélizy-Villacoublay via tram T6. The goal? To ease traffic on the notorious N118, which is often gridlocked during peak hours.

Following the success of the C1 Cable, plans for a second urban cable car in the Île-de-France region could attract residents of Vélizy as well as those in the Hauts-de-Seine. Currently, a bus line—number 40—connects Pont de Sèvres in Boulogne-Billancourt to Vélizy-Villacoublay, with less than 15 minutes needed during off-peak hours to travel between the two points. However, according to Pascal Thevenot, the mayor of Vélizy-Villacoublay, who spoke with France 3 Paris - Île-de-France, this potential future cable car could carry "4,000 passengers per hour, with the same number of people commuting in the morning and evening in both directions."
