Montmartre shifts into running mode. This Sunday, January 18, the 18th arrondissement of Paris will host the inaugural Montmartre 10K, a new race taking place amidst the iconic streets of the hill. An event of significant scale, with 10,000 runners expected to navigate a course that winds from boulevard Ornano and rue Leibniz to boulevard Barbès, rue Lepic, and around the Sacré-Cœur basilica.

Having recently become accustomed to cycling events, the neighborhood is now preparing for the arrival of runners and their race numbers. Naturally, the organization requires a significant set of parking and traffic restrictions, implemented by the police prefecture. Residents, shopkeepers, and drivers should plan ahead. As Le Parisien reports, the initial measures will take effect starting Friday, January 16 at 6 p.m. Here are the important details to keep in mind:

No Parking Allowed

  • Starting Friday, January 16 at 6 p.m., and lasting until Saturday at 6 p.m.
  • Rue Ordener, between Boulevard Barbès and Rue Stephenson
  • Rue Ordener, between Rue du Ruisseau and Rue de Clignancourt
  • Rue Paul Abert
  • Designated delivery parking spots will remain unaffected

Traffic restrictions in place from Saturday night to Sunday

  • Starting at 2:30 AM
    • Rue Ordener, from Rue du Ruisseau to Rue Stephenson
    • Boulevard Barbès, between Rue Ordener and Rue Doudeauville
  • Starting at 4:30 AM
    • Boulevard Barbès from Rue du Poulet to Rue Myrha
    • Rue Paul Abert
    • Rue du Chevalier de la Barre between Rue Lamarck and Rue Paul Abert

Race Route Closed to Traffic

  • From 6:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m.
  • Key affected routes (among others):
    • Boulevard Ornano
    • Rue du Simplon
    • Rue Ordener
    • Rue de Clignancourt
    • Rue Lamarck
    • Rue Custine

According to the designated routes, the gradual lifting of the restrictions is scheduled between 12:30 PM and 2:00 PM, reports Le Parisien. It’s a Sunday dedicated to sports, provided you’ve mapped out the detours in advance!
