The heatwave is now under red alert from this Saturday, affecting the entire Ile-de-France, prompting the authorities to tighten preventive measures in the Val-d'Oise. To limit health risks, fire outbreaks and public-order disturbances, the prefecture has put in place several temporary prohibitions applicable until the 15 July 2026.
The fireworks, certain physical and sports activities, and the consumption of alcohol in public spaces are among the main restrictions decided by the state. These measures are part of the current heatwave and drought vigilance. The Prefecture of Val-d'Oise urges residents to adjust their behavior to limit the risks associated with the high heat.
The fire risk is being closely monitored at a time when high temperatures rapidly dry out natural spaces. That’s why the fireworks and pyrotechnic displays are ibanned until July 15, with the exception of events that have a specific authorization. The aim is to prevent any fire start that could quickly spread in wooded areas or agricultural land, as several French departments are currently under a high level of vigilance.
The prefecture also regulates physical activities when temperatures rise to especially high levels. Sporting events or the most exposed outdoor activities may be banned or postponed to protect participants, particularly children, the elderly, and athletes. During a heatwave, authorities remind us that strenuous activity greatly increases the risk of dehydration, dizziness, or heat stroke.
Another notable measure: drinking alcohol in public spaces is temporarily prohibited, with the exception of authorized cafe and restaurant terraces. The aim is to curb risky behavior, since alcohol can cause dehydration and worsen the body’s reaction to heat. Authorities remind people to drink water regularly, avoid strenuous activity during the hottest hours, and seek out cooler or air-conditioned venues.
Beyond these prohibitions, the prefecture urges everyone to follow best practices: keep homes cool, close the shutters during the day, regularly check on isolated residents, and call emergency services if anyone feels unwell. Residents are also asked to monitor developments on the Météo-France vigilance site and the updates issued by the Val-d'Oise prefecture. These restrictions may be lifted or extended depending on the evolution of the weather and the vigilance level.
