The curfew returns to Paris this weekend, on October 31 and November 1, 2026, from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m. in the République and Châtelet-Les Halles districts. With further demonstrations expected in the capital, the police prefecture has decided to extend the restrictive measure for two more nights.

The curfew has been reinstated in Paris for the nights of Saturday, October 31, to Sunday, November 1, and Sunday, November 1, to Monday, November 2, 2026. On Thursday, October 22, the restrictions in place in République and Les Halles had been extended by the police prefecture. After several nights of curfew in Paris, and in anticipation of demonstrations the previous weekend, the prefecture had decided to significantly extend the restrictive measure. On Monday, October 26, it decided to extend the curfew again, but only in the République area, until 6 a.m. on Tuesday, October 27. On Friday, October 30, the prefecture finally decided to reinstate the curfew in both areas for Saturday and Sunday nights, as stated in its prefectural order No. 2026-01485 of October 30, 2026.

These measures follow the violence, damage, and looting that occurred during the mobilisation nationale du samedi 17 octobre contre la vie chère, notably in Paris, Lyon and Marseille. From October 19, Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu had asked the prefects to establish partial and localized curfews, to be applied in Paris over the next two nights. According to his official statements, these restrictions aim to protect residents and businesses in the affected areas, after consultation with mayors and the chambers of commerce and industry.

Which neighborhoods are affected by the latest partial curfew?

On the nights of Saturday, October 31, to Sunday, November 1, and Sunday, November 1, to Monday, November 2, from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m., two areas of Paris are once again subject to the curfew:

  • Place de la République (Paris’s 3rd, 10th and 11th arrondissements): notably the central plaza.
  • The Châtelet-Les Halles area (Paris’s 1st arrondissement): an area around the Canopy of Les Halles.

The decision comes as new protests are expected in the capital this Saturday, October 31, on Halloween.

Previous curfew orders provided for exemptions for residents who could prove their place of residence by any means, shopkeepers, people required to go to work in the affected sectors, and public emergency services.

The weekend of October 24 and 25 was less turbulent, however: according to the Interior Ministry’s provisional national tally, 1,314 people were arrested, compared with 2,628 the previous week, and 24 businesses were looted. Despite this lull, the prefecture decided to extend the curfew for two more nights. On Monday, October 26, Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez said on BFMTV and RMC that curfews could remain in place in several cities, at the discretion of prefects and mayors.

Other restrictions are also being extended until 6 a.m. on Monday, November 2, including a ban on undeclared gatherings in several areas of Paris. A separate curfew from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. also applies to unaccompanied minors on the nights of October 30–31, October 31–November 1 and November 1–2. The previous measure was suspended by the Paris Administrative Court on Wednesday, October 28, but a new order was issued by the Paris police headquarters the following day.

Regarding the curfew applying to both adults and minors in the République and Les Halles districts, the new measures are therefore due to end at 6 a.m. on Monday, November 2, unless the authorities make a new decision.
