A fantastic opportunity to explore the world of stamps! As part of the 22nd edition of the Night of Museums, the Post Office Museum will open its doors for evening visits of its permanent collections on Saturday, May 23, 2026. Come and experience the history and the fascinating world of this unique museum.
The Musée de la Poste opened its doors for the very first time on June 4, 1946, in the heart of theHôtel de Choiseul-Praslin, in the 6th arrondissement of Paris. The museum originally housed a collection of postage stamps. The museum moved to the Necker district, in the 15th arrondissement, in a brand-new, larger space built between 1969 and 1972. The inauguration took place a year later, in 1973, in the presence ofHubert Germain, Minister of the Post Office. The museum reopened in 2019, after several years of renovation.
Today, you'll discover the history of the Post Office, as well as major stamp collections. These astonishing collections may well surprise you: there are overa million philatelic items, more than 200,000 images, 37,000 works and objects illustrating the history and professions of La Poste from the Middle Ages to the present day, 30,000 printed works and 800 magazine titles, not forgetting a collection of mail art andcontemporary art.
