The Nuit des Musées welcomes curious visitors and enthusiasts each year to an event packed with cultural highlights. Every edition, this pan-European phenomenon invites us to rediscover our heritage in a new light. Monuments, châteaux, museums and renowned institutions open their doors to offer an exciting program of exceptional late openings, free tours and unusual activities. Whether you’re with family, a crew of friends, a couple, or flying solo, there are plans for every audience. Paris and the entire Île-de-France region are of course ready for this new edition, which arrives on Saturday, May 23, 2026.
In Seine-et-Marne, the Musée d'Art et d'Histoire de Melun is taking part in the Nuit des Musées 2026. Housed in the hôtel de la Vicomté, a privately owned townhouse partially listed as a Historic Monument, it offers a glimpse into its collections of archaeological artifacts, paintings, drawings and ceramics around the city, its history, and the artists tied to it. So, feeling like exploring the program waiting for you on Saturday, May 23, 2026? See below!
The Frac Île-de-France and the Melun Museum of Art and History explore sculpture from the 19th century to the present.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
### An exhibition presented as part of the “Le Syndrome de Bonnard, ou l’impermanence des œuvres” off-site program.
The Frac Île-de-France teams up with the Melun Museum of Art and History for an exhibition that brings into dialogue works by Émilie Pitoiset, Erwin Wurm, Haris Epaminonda, and Pierre Paulin from the FRAC Île-de-France collection with pieces from Melun’s collection dedicated to Henri Chapu, a major figure in 19th-century sculpture.
Grand Prix de Rome in 1855, Chapu embodies an era when academic sculpture reigned at the Beaux-Arts. His works, revisited here through the prisms of reproduction, appropriation, and recontextualization, speak to the questions faced by contemporary artists.
From drawing to the model, from bronze to performance, the exhibition shows how sculpture, anchored in its heritage, keeps reinventing itself from century to century.
Opening at 5 p.m.
