Each year, the Night of Museums draws in curious visitors and enthusiasts alike, offering an event packed with great deals and fascinating cultural discoveries. This year, the celebration spanning across Europe is set for Saturday, May 23, 2026 — promising an evening full of exceptional nocturnes, free visits, and quirky activities including concerts, creative workshops, performances, and countless surprises.
To mark the occasion, museums, monuments, castles, and cultural institutions are joining in the fun, unveiling their programs one after another. As you might expect, in Paris and the Île-de-France region, this 22nd edition promises an exciting line-up of events, delighting both first-time visitors and longtime residents alike.
Paris may be one of the most beautiful cities in the world, but the rest of the region is well worth a visit. In fact, why not take advantage of this new edition to discover more about the heritage of Seine-et-Marne? The 77 département has many treasures to offer, some of them little-known. In Saint-Cyr-sur-Morin, you can find out more about its history at the Musée départemental de la Seine-et-Marne, housed in a former hotel-restaurant built of millstone. The museum is taking part in the latest Nuit des Musées!
As part of the "Hemp" exhibition, the Seine-et-Marne Departmental Museum invites you to hear the memories of paper mill workers through testimonials and music, with a reading-theater performance based on the stories of former employees of Arjowiggins-Crèvecoeur—the last paper mill in Île-de-France.
Along the Grand Morin River, mills have been operable for centuries, initially dedicated to tanning, then milling flour and producing oil, before shifting to paper manufacturing. With the advent of the first assignats during the French Revolution, the marsh paper mills gained widespread fame, and by the following century, the Crèvecoeur factory became a major financial landmark. Over time, it established itself as a leading international producer of banknotes. Its abrupt closure in 2019 left the region deprived of its artisanal expertise.
"The Grand Morin: A Papermaking Heritage" is an artist residency project by Soleil Sous La Pluie, carried out in collaboration with the Crèvecoeur and Le Marais papermaking guilds and the Two Morin Community of Communes.
The performances will be followed by a concert-quiz hybrid by the band Les Gueules de Guingois: a trio headed by Parisian accordionist Nicolas Almosni, supported by a double bassist and vocalist. Enjoy tastings of bread and drinks infused with hemp… guaranteed good cheer.
