  • The Gallo-Roman Mosaic of Souzy-la-Briche
    Saturday, May 23, 2026, 3:30 PM – 5:30 PM

Since 1912, the Étampes Museum has safeguarded the last fragment of an ancient mosaic unearthed by Count de Saint-Périer on his Souzy-la-Briche estate at Cave-Sarrazine. The remains of a Gallo-Roman villa were excavated in 1865 and again in 1882 by the Count’s grandfather to reveal an exceptional collection of geometric mosaic with polychrome decoration dating from the 4th century. An archaeological testimony unique to Île-de-France, it is tightly linked to the Saint-Périer family history—from the archaeological site to the Museum, and on to the Château de Morigny.
