The Fête de la Musique of Rambouillet is set to turn the heart of the Yvelines (78) into a vast open-air stage, on Saturday, June 20, 2026. From Rue Chasles to the castle, via the Jardin du Roi de Rome and Place Félix Faure, a large swath of the town center becomes the playground for a free, eclectic, and popular music night, organized as every year by l'Usine à Chapeaux in partnership with the city of Rambouillet.
For more than 40 years, Usine à Chapeaux has been organizing Rambouillet's Fête de la Musique, an annual celebration that brings together between 15,000 and 20,000 people for a large, city-center party. It began in 1984 when the Rambouillet edition was launched, barely two years after the event’s official inception in France, envisioned by Jack Lang and Maurice Fleuret. Suffice to say the tradition is strong, and the town knows how to welcome everyone.
This year’s edition is shaping up to be as generous as previous ones when it comes to the lineup. Classical, rock, metal, pop, French chanson, blues, jazz, traditional music and gospel: a wide spectrum of genres takes center stage, with a clear emphasis on local musicians. That’s one of the festival’s charms: you’ll discover the local scene in all its richness, far from the usual headliners, with artists you might cross paths with in everyday life without even realizing it.
The evening kicks off at 8:30 p.m. with the family-friendly show KAKAMÜ, staged in the Jardin du Roi de Rome, a discreetly charming green space tucked between the museum and the castle. It’s a thoughtful touch for families, who can start the night with the kids before the night carries on. The party stretches until 2 a.m.: on Place Félix Faure, it’s the Rambouillet electro-pop duo Chandail Chandail that brings the festivities to a close at 1 a.m.
Throughout the evening, the streets aren’t just a backdrop behind the scenes. The marionnettes de l'école de l'AIDEMA des Essarts-le-Roi wander among the passersby, adding a splash of visual poetry to the musical buzz. It’s the kind of surprise you savor, especially when you meander from one stage to another without a fixed plan.
The full lineup of artists and stages will be unveiled soon by the Usine à Chapeaux. To reach Rambouillet from Paris, the Transilien Line N from Gare Montparnasse gets you there in about 35 minutes, making for an evening that’s easily doable without a car. Admission is free and open to everyone, on Saturday, June 20, 2026 in Rambouillet city center.
