Heads up: due to the red heatwave alert, some events of the Music Day 2026 may be canceled, postponed, or altered. Check the latest information before you head out.
Every year on June 21, the Fête de la Musique brings millions of people together in the streets of rural towns and small, medium-sized and large cities across France. Musical events are also organized in museums, cultural centers and concert halls. Paris, of course, offers many free concerts on this day. In the Île-de-France region, and in Seine-et-Marne in particular, there are many fine musical moments performed by amateur and professional musicians.
But what exactly is the Fête de la Musique? Once a year, on June 21 (the day of the summer solstice), this popular and free musical event invites all musicians, amateurs of all levels and professionals alike, to celebrate living music and to showcase the breadth and diversity of musical practices, as well as all musical genres.
Created by the French Ministry of Culture in 1982, the Fête de la Musique has since been exported abroad, becoming a national event in countries such as Luxembourg, Italy, Greece, Peru and Colombia. Over the years, the Fête de la Musique has invented and reinvented itself, becoming an emblematic event that we love to celebrate every June 21.
This 2026 edition of the Music Day celebration is a chance to return to the essentials, through a series of free concerts that are both festive and unifying. Whether on the street, in concert halls and performance venues, or in museums, and spanning classical, rock or electro, Music Day 2026 once again looks set to be a beautiful and joyful affair.
