Every year, the Musée du Louvre transforms itself into a unique cinematic setting for the Journées du film sur l'art, returning from March 5 to 9, 2025 with a varied and exciting program. This year's program includes 25 films, 7 previews and exclusive encounters with 21 guest artists and directors, taking you deep into the world of dance, fashion and the visual arts.
The Louvre's Auditorium Michel Laclotte plays host to this 18th edition of the festival, with its focus on artistic diversity. The program features three major themes: "Dancing in the Museum", "Fashion and Cinema" and "Art Stories". Audiences will be able to enjoy never-before-seen screenings, live performances and captivating exchanges with such emblematic figures as Frederick Wiseman, Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker, Loïc Prigent and the musical duo Birds on a Wire.
The "Danser le musée" section explores the place of dance in museum spaces. Two recent creations, Forêt(2022) by Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker and Némo Flouret, and Petites joueuses (2024) by François Chaignaud, are previewed. This theme also includes a retrospective of Frederick Wiseman's Ballet, restored in 4K, as well as carte blanche offered to the Centre Pompidou and its Vidéodanse collection.
With "Fashion and Cinema", the art of the garment dialogues with that of the camera. This section pays tribute to Alexander McQueen through the film McQueen (2018), and offers a selection of short films on the interactions between fashion houses and cinema, with commentary by director and columnist Loïc Prigent.
Finally, "Histoires d'art" invites us to rediscover major figures in the history of art, such as Leonardo da Vinci and Titian, through exceptional documentaries. Special mention goes to Ken Burns' Leonardo da Vinci, a captivating three-part fresco, and Birds on a Wire's A Night at the Louvre, which combines music and painting in an enchanting setting.
The Journées du film sur l'art is aimed at art lovers and the curious in search of new discoveries. The event is a rare opportunity to see previously unseen films, meet artists and experience unique performances in the sumptuous setting of the Louvre. With accessible rates and a pass that gives access to the museum, these days are a great opportunity to combine culture and cinema.
