The Czech-In festival marks its 12th edition with a focus on the links between cinema and freedom. In Paris, its flagship dates from 16 to 18 October 2026 will bring together Czech, Slovak and European films at Saint-André-des-Arts. Other events extend this program through 23 October.
On the occasion of Václav Havel’s 90th birthday, the festival takes a look back at the arc of the playwright, dissident and president through the retrospective Havel à l’écran. Citoyen Havel accompanies his years in office, while Ici Havel, vous m’entendez ? concentrates on the end of his life. Sur le départ, his only feature film, tackles the loss of power and responsibility.
The program also features contemporary films Broken Voices, Cendres, Dead Language and Madame la Présidente. A selection of shorts produced with the FAMU and VŠMU schools and the KINÉTRACES association offers a glimpse of young filmmakers.
Two screenings on October 21 extend the program with Why Havel? and Desire. The festival continues on October 23 at the Paris City Hall Auditorium with a debate on Havel’s legacy, followed by the screening Václav Havel: A Life of Freedom.
