In this second instalment, Adonis Creed tries to juggle his personal life, his training, and his status as a boxer. His next bout takes on a new meaning when his opponent is revealed to be tied to his family’s past: Viktor Drago, the son of Ivan Drago, the fighter who killed Apollo Creed in the ring in Rocky IV.
The film puts Adonis under the weight of a heavy legacy to bear. With Rocky by his side, he must decide what is worth defending, between vengeance, passing on the family legacy, and forging his own identity as a champion. This sequel preserves the franchise’s codes while continuing the journey opened by Creed - L’Héritage de Rocky Balboa.
In the cast, Michael B. Jordan reprises the role of Adonis Creed, Sylvester Stallone plays Rocky Balboa, and Tessa Thompson returns as Bianca. The film also marks the return of Dolph Lundgren as Ivan Drago, alongside Florian Munteanu as Viktor Drago and Phylicia Rashad as Mary Anne Creed.
Creed II may appeal to Netflix subscribers who follow sports dramas, stories of lineage, and the Rocky saga. The film is less aimed at viewers seeking a truly standalone boxing movie, as this sequel leans heavily on the events of Rocky IV and the first Creed.
The Creed II trailer centers on the face-off between Adonis Creed and Viktor Drago, and also features Rocky Balboa returning in his mentor role.
