Uncharted, the action-adventure film based on the famous video game saga, arrives on Netflix on February 16, 2025. Tom Holland and Mark Wahlberg set off in search of a legendary treasure!

Directed by Ruben Fleischer, Uncharted is the long-awaitedfilm adaptation of the popular video game franchise of the same name. This action-adventure film follows the early adventures of Nathan Drake, played by Tom Holland, a resourceful thief recruited by Victor "Sully" Sullivan, played by Mark Wahlberg, to recover a legendary fortune that has been missing for 500 years.

Together, they travel the globe on a quest filled with danger, mysteries to solve and spectacular chases. Enhanced by an all-star cast, including Sophia Ali and Antonio Banderas as Moncada, the main antagonist, Uncharted promises a thrilling adventure that blends explosive action with humor. The film will appeal to both video game fans and those looking for mainstream entertainment inspired by films such as Indiana Jones or Tomb Raider.

Where and when can you see Uncharted in France?

Uncharted will be available on Netflix from February 16, 2025.

Synopsis: Nathan Drake, a cunning and intrepid thief, is recruited by veteran treasure hunter Victor "Sully" Sullivan to recover the fortune of Ferdinand Magellan, lost 500 years ago. What at first seems like a simple heist eventually becomes a frantic race around the globe to grab the treasure before the ruthless Moncada, who is convinced that his family are the rightful heirs to the fortune. If Nathan and Sully can decipher the clues and solve one of the world's oldest mysteries, they could win $5 billion and perhaps even find Nathan's long-lost brother... but they'll have to learn to work together.

Uncharted is aimed at fans of epic adventures, action films and, of course, the videogame saga developed by Naughty Dog. With its blend of spectacular action, exotic settings and intriguing puzzles, the film takes the key elements that made the games such a success, while adding original touches to appeal to a wide audience.

Audiences who enjoy films such as Indiana Jones, Benjamin Gates and Tomb Raider will find Uncharted a fast-paced adventure full of twists and turns. Fans of Tom Holland, who shines in a different role to Spider-Man, will discover a bolder, more physical performance, while Mark Wahlberg brings a touch of charisma and humor to the role of Sully.

On the other hand, fans of more realistic narratives, or those who prefer total fidelity to video games, may be disappointed by the liberties taken in this adaptation. But for audiences looking for entertainment and escapism, Uncharted is a sure bet.

Uncharted is an explosive adventure that combines action, mystery and humor in a quest around the globe. Starring Tom Holland and Mark Wahlberg, this film promises to delight treasure-hunting enthusiasts and adventure movie fans alike.

Our opinion on Uncharted:

Adapting a video game into a film has never been easy... Many have tried, and many have failed. With a few exceptions that have succeeded (the first Tomb Raiders, although this is debatable, Hitman, the latest Mortal Kombat...), Uncharted runs into the same pitfalls as the others that have failed, but still comes out with flying colors, even if the results are mixed.

Let's start with the good points: the cinematography is in tune with the times, with some quite beautiful landscape shots overall. The plot, too, is coherent (with a few exceptions) and fairly gripping.Mark Wahlberg's performance as Sully, too, seems to have understood his character very well and conveys him particularly well in his acting. We also appreciate the nods to Naughty Dog Studios scattered throughout the film.

On the other hand, the film falls short on several counts. Firstly, in its approach to adaptation, since the story is intended to be an adaptation of several games in the franchise. As we said earlier, adapting a video game is a complicated and tricky business, especially when the video game in question already has a very well-developed storyline, which has already been adapted for the cinema. This was already the case for the latest Tomb Raider, and it's the case here too for Uncharted. The reason? Scenario elements taken from one game or another, with different plots, and which may somewhat disappoint gamers who expect to find these scenes in their videogame context.

A mixture of original story and story already told that distorts the whole. But we'd still like to salute the coherence of the story, even if it's made up of a patchwork of scenes inspired by the games, making the whole thing pleasant to follow, with a plot that holds together. Even so, even if it were a prequel, we'd have liked to see a story that was truly detached from the games (or at least without the scenes from the games), which would have given Tom Holland 's performance more credence as the incarnation of a younger Nathan Drake.

Which brings us to the other problem with this, which has to do with its lead role: Tom Holland. A relatively complex problem... And for good reason: the character of Nathan Drake is particularly well crafted (something that Naughty Dog excels at, by the way), so much so that he becomes immediately identifiable to the greatest number of people, as much in his physique as in his behavior and interactions with others. Nathan Drake is a face, but he also has a charisma all his own.

Now let's take Tom Holland: an actor of unquestionable talent who, like Nathan Drake (and unfortunately, in a certain sense), is immediately recognizable. And therein lies the problem: the two being relatively antinomic, it's hard for the actor to fit into the character's mold. No matter how hard Tom Holland tries, it's hard to see Nathan Drake in his guise. Was Tom Holland a good casting choice? Maybe, probably, on paper. Could another actor have done better? Probably not. It's the character's fault, but above all it's the mix of prequel stories and scenes from the game that hampers the image we have of the protagonist. However, the acting of the Tom Holland/Mark Walhberg duo is commendable, and works wonders.

The film also suffers from a few inconsistencies, but that doesn't stop Uncharted from being good fun overall. A film that will undoubtedly appeal to moviegoers unfamiliar with the game. As for the rest of us, we'll let you make up your own mind.
