Tenor, Claude Zidi Jr.'s musical comedy that fuses rap and opera, is now streaming on Netflix as of October 14, 2026.

Ténor, a comedy directed by Claude Zidi Jr., arrives on Netflix on October 14, 2026. Released in cinemas in 2022, the film teams up Mohamed Belkhir, aka MB14, Michèle Laroque, Guillaume Duhesme, and Samir Decazza in a story that blends rap with opera.

Antoine juggles his days between accounting studies, a sushi-delivery job, and the rap battles that fuel his nights. A delivery to the Opéra Garnier brings him face-to-face with Madame Loyseau, a vocal coach who spots a tenor in him.

The young man then begins formal vocal training, which he keeps hidden from those closest to him. This new discipline forces him to navigate between two musical and social worlds he had thought incompatible.

The filming notably took place at the Opéra Garnier. MB14, who first came to public attention on The Voice, lands his first major film role here opposite Michèle Laroque.

Our take on Ténor

Ténor is a warmly entertaining comedy that playfully pits cultures against each other in a way we cinema fans always love. While genre-blending is now fairly common in film, the world of dance rarely sees a singer dive so fully into both disciplines—and MB14capably bridges them.

We were especially taken with Michèle Laroque, a character who is at once formidable and vulnerable, delivering her lines with sharp wit and plenty of self-mockery. Mrs. Loyseau is an inspiring woman, someone you’d want to look up to.

One might wish for an even bolder fusion—perhaps a dash of RAP in the opera, or opera threaded into RAP. Yet we relished rediscovering classical music through the wide-eyed wonder of MB14, whose character vows, after a Paris Opera rehearsal, to be able to “bring that emotion” to audiences.

In short, a stunningly enjoyable film that puts culture squarely at the center of the stage. Heads up: you’ll likely leave the cinema with a tear in your eye!
