Bonne Conduite : the new success of Jonathan Barré (the Palmashow) - review and trailer

After having made a name for himself by directing the Palmashow's sketches and films, Jonathan Barré signs his first film without the comedian duo at the helm. "Bonne Conduite", starring Laure Calamy, is expected in theaters on March 29.

Until now, Jonathan Barré was best known for being the third invisible member of the Palmashow. Indeed, he is the director of all the sketches of the two comedians, as well as of their two films: La Folle Histoire de Max et Léon and Les Vedettes. For the first time, the young filmmaker is embarking on a more personal project: Bonne Conduite, which will be released in theaters on March 29.

The trailer of Bonne Conduite

And even if this feature film is not written by David Marsais and Grégoire Ludig, they still have a role in the film. However, secondary. Good Conduct is carried by the brilliant Laure Calamy, who is seen everywhere (in 2022, we saw her in Annie Colère, The Origin of Evil and The Cyclades). A police comedy about a murderer who only attacks drivers, we can't wait to discover the result on the big screen.

Our opinion

Here is a very particular film! After two feature films with the Palmashow that allowed him to refine his style, Jonathan Barré returns with this unique comedy. A comedy thriller that borrows a lot from genre films, we think a lot of John Carpenter when we watch Good Driving, whether it's thanks to its masterful soundtrack that magnifies the work, or thanks to its car, which obviously evokes Christine. The music can even make you think of Nicolas Winding Refn's films.

But that's not all, Good Driving is above all a great director's film. It may be a light comedy, but Jonathan Barré takes his subject very seriously and takes care of his image as much as any American film signed by a big name would. The young filmmaker's influences are evident in every scene, but they do not overload the narrative, which is limpid and finely staged.

Above all, it is rare to see a comedy that combines so well the quality of direction and the writing of its characters. Indeed, Barré has made his mark with the Palmashow, so he knows better than anyone how to properly identify a comic trope and give it an instant way to create humor. Among the actors, we find many heads seen in the sketches of the Palmashow,(Thomas VDB, Sixtine Aupetit, Julien Pestel, David Salles and many others), but also Olivier Marchal, all these secondary roles are tasty. And in the middle of this gallery of characters, the immense Laure Calamy, who, with each role, asserts herself a little more as the greatest French actress of her generation, and of course, David Marsais and Grégoire Ludig as the duo of incompetent cops, always so hilarious.

In short, Good Driving is a nice breath of fresh air in French cinema and an excellent advert for road safety, what more could you ask for?

The synopsis of Good Driving

Pauline has her own way of doing road safety: she is a trainer in a point recovery center during the day and turns into a serial killer of drivers at night.
