Carla Simón will chair the jury for short films and La Cinef, at the Cannes Film Festival 2026, which runs from May 12 to 23.
The Spanish screenwriter and director will be joined by South Korean actress and visual artist Park Ji-Min, Iranian screenwriter-director and producer Ali Asgari, French actor and filmmaker Salim Kechiouche, and Swedish writer-director Magnus von Horn.
"A short film is a world unto itself. In just a few minutes, it can leave a lasting imprint. Created with complete freedom, driven by artistic risk and, above all, inhabited by a soul, it reconnects me with the essence of cinema and the thrill of first times. Even for those who work in feature films, the short format remains a vital space for experimentation and renewal. I am deeply honored to chair the Short Films Jury and La Cinef, and grateful for the opportunity to discover new voices and be transformed by them. Returning to Cannes is, once again, an adventure, a dream and a privilege." said Carla Simón, upon the announcement of her nomination.
Together, they face the daunting task of awarding the Palme d’Or for short films and the three La Cinef prizes, the Cannes Film Festival’s program for student films, from the ten films in the short-film competition as well as the nineteen films in the Cinef selection.
