Cannes Film Festival 2026: The selection of short films and La Cinef

The Cannes Film Festival 2026 has just unveiled its short-film selection and the Cinef. This year, after screening no fewer than 3,184 films, 10 short films have been chosen for the competition, coming from countries all over the world. The prestigious Short Film Palme d'Or will be awarded by the jury at the palmarès ceremony to be held on May 23.

For its 29th edition, La Cinef has selected 19 films - 14 fiction features and 5 animations - from 2,750 short films submitted by film schools from around the world. Directed by 12 women and 9 men, they represent 15 countries and 4 continents. Two schools are invited for the first time: Hongik University in South Korea and ISAMM in Tunisia.

The same jury will award the three La Cinef Prizes at a ceremony held before the screening of the winning films, on Thursday, May 21, in the Buñuel hall.
