Barbra Streisand will be the guest of honor at the Cannes Film Festival closing ceremony on May 23, 2026, where she will be awarded a personal Palme d'Or for her outstanding career.

The Cannes Film Festival 2026 is quickly approaching, and exciting announcements continue to pour in day after day. The organizers of the world’s biggest cinematic event have just announced, following Peter Jackson, the name of another legendary figure from the world of film who will be honored with a Special Palme d’Or: Barbra Streisand.

The actress, director, producer, screenwriter, singer, and songwriter will receive this prestigious award during the closing ceremony of the Cannes Film Festival 2026 on May 23rd.

"It is with pride and deep humility that I am honored to join the ranks of this year's Honorary Palme d'Or laureates, whose work has inspired me for a long time," said Barbra Streisand. "In these challenging times, cinema has the power to open our hearts and minds to stories that reflect our shared humanity, offering perspectives that remind us of our fragility and resilience. Film transcends borders and politics, demonstrating the power of imagination to shape a more compassionate world."

For Thierry Frémaux, the general delegate of the Cannes Film Festival: "Global superstar, Barbra Streisand is above all an artist—she creates projects that reflect her soul, that truly belong to her, and that she has shared with the world. She stands as the legendary bridge between Broadway and Hollywood, seamlessly blending the worlds of music hall stage and the silver screen. Hearing her sing and watching her perform remain among our fondest memories!"
