Directed by Anne-Sophie Bailly, Mon inséparable plunges into the intimacy of an atypical and deeply moving mother-son relationship. Mona, played by the talented Laure Calamy, is a mother devoted to Joël, her mentally retarded son in his thirties, played by Charles Peccia-Galletto, recently selected as one of the 15 Revelations of the 2025 César Awards. This drama explores themes rarely tackled in cinema, such as sexuality, consent and parenthood among people with disabilities. With sensitive writing and a convincing cast, the film promises a luminous reflection on universal issues such as the quest for independence and family ties.
Mon inséparable will be released in cinemas from December 25, 2024.
Synopsis: Mona lives with her thirty-something son, Joël, who is "retarded". He works in a specialized institution, an ESAT, and is passionately in love with his colleague Océane, who is also disabled. While Mona knows nothing of this relationship, she learns that Océane is pregnant. The close relationship between mother and son begins to unravel.
Mon inséparable appeals above all to fans of intimatesocial dramas, but also to viewers sensitive to engaged themes. By exploring taboo subjects such as parenthood and the sexuality of disabled people, the film follows in the footsteps of works such as Hors Normes and The Sessions.
This film could have a profound effect on viewers curious to discover a realistic and caring portrayal of human diversity, as well as those interested in complex family relationships. The presence of Laure Calamy, already known for her intense, nuanced roles, is a real asset in attracting a wide audience.
On the other hand, the film's delicate subject matter may not suit viewers looking for light entertainment or a less emotionally intense story.
The film has already attracted attention at a number of prestigious international festivals, including the Venice Film Festival, where it won three awards, notably for direction by Anne-Sophie Bailly. Charles Peccia-Galletto 's performance also received a special mention, confirming his potential to become a rising figure in French cinema.
With Mon inséparable, Anne-Sophie Bailly offers a moving and courageous social drama that sheds light on realities rarely explored in cinema. Thanks to a talented cast and a sincere approach to complex subjects, this film promises to be a landmark work for all fans of human and universal stories.
