The lanterns finally light up around Disney’s most iconic tower. The live-action adaptation of Rapunzel emerges from the shadows, revealing its cast after months of anticipation. Here’s what we know.

After months confined within her tower of silence, the live-action adaptation of Tangled is finally unraveling its knots. Disney has revealed the cast… Teagan Croft and Milo Manheim have been cast as Rapunzel and Flynn Rider in this highly anticipated version, directed by Michael Gracey (The Greatest Showman, Better Man). The film will be produced by Kristin Burr (Freaky Friday, Cruella) and scripted by Jennifer Kaytin Robinson (Thor: Love and Thunder). Standing opposite them, Kathryn Hahn will portray the villainous Mother Gothel (Bad Moms, Bad Times at the El Royale).

At just 21, Teagan Croft is set to leave behind her dark persona as Rachel Roth in Titans and her maritime adventure in True Spirit on Netflix to embrace the legendary long braids of Rapunzel. Meanwhile, Milo Manheim, aged 24 and a true Disney veteran, is transitioning from the wild high school days of Zombies to the daring escapades of Flynn Rider. Currently starring in School Spirits, the actor and daughter of Camryn Manheim also wowed audiences by finishing second in the 27th season of Dancing with the Stars.

Scheduled for release in December 2024, the Rapunzel project was put on hold following the commercial disappointment of the live-action Snow White, which hit theaters in March 2025. However, Disney recently revived the casting process last month, confirming Scarlett Johansson's departure from the project, where she was initially slated to play the Mother Gothel. The crucial role will now be filled by Kathryn Hahn, who will bring the iconic villainess to life. Teagan Croft and Milo Manheim will reprise the roles originally voiced by Mandy Moore and Zachary Levi in the animated version.

This new project joins the latest wave of Disney live-action adaptations, which has been revived recently thanks to the success of Lilo & Stitch. It follows other upcoming projects like Hercules, Bambi, Moana, and a spin-off of Beauty and the Beast centered on Gaston. This highly anticipated adaptation is now fully committed to bringing the beloved story from page to screen.
