Ira Sachs will present his new film, The Man I Love, at the 2026 Cannes Film Festival, where it will compete for the Palme d'Or in the official competition.

Just weeks ahead of its opening on May 12, the Cannes Film Festival 2026 has unveiled its long-awaited official selection. Competition, out of competition, as well as special screenings, midnight screenings, and Cannes Première... a hefty slate of films awaits festival-goers once again, from May 12 to 23, 2026.

The film The Man I Love by Ira Sachs is among those. It joins the competition and thus contends for the Palme d'Or 2026. This marks the second time the American director, producer and screenwriter travels to the Croisette to present a film in official competition. In 2019 already, his film Frankie, starring Isabelle Huppert, was in the running for the most prestigious prize in cinema.

For his latest feature, a musical comedy, Ira Sachs has tapped Rami Malek and Rebecca Hall for the cast.

Synopsis : New York, in the late 1980s. The artist Jimmy George is confronted with illness and death. Yet he finds one last love.
