The cast of Snoop, the biopic about Snoop Dogg, continues to take shape. SwayvoTwain will portray The Notorious B.I.G., while Bentley Green will play RBX and G Perico will portray Big Reecie Cup. They join Jonathan Daviss in the lead role, Myles Bullock as Dr. Dre, Camron Jones as Tupac Shakur, and Lauren London as Beverly Tate, the rapper's mother.
Son of artists D’Angelo and Angie Stone, SwayvoTwain—born Michael D’Angelo Archer II—lands his first major film role opposite Snoop. According to Variety, these new additions strengthen the emphasis on the figures who surrounded Snoop Dogg in 1990s American hip-hop.
Directed by Craig Brewer, the filmmaker behind Hustle & Flow and Dolemite Is My Name, Snoop will chart the rise of Calvin Broadus Jr., who became one of hip-hop's leading voices under the moniker Snoop Dogg. The director is building the project from his rewrite of an original script by Joe Robert Cole.
The arrival of The Notorious B.I.G. and Tupac Shakur among the film’s characters highlights a portion of the era the story will explore. Snoop Dogg and Tupac famously crossed paths with Death Row Records in the 1990s and teamed up on 2 of Amerikaz Most Wanted. Despite belonging to two rival scenes, Snoop Dogg and Biggie shared a mutual respect. Beverly Tate also plays an important role in the rapper’s personal life: she’s the one who gave him the nickname “Snoopy” in his childhood, the origin of his future stage name.
Jonathan Daviss, best known for the series Outer Banks, will step into the shoes of Snoop Dogg. The project is being produced by Snoop Dogg himself, along with Brian Grazer for Imagine Entertainment and Sara Ramaker, president of Death Row Pictures. It marks the first feature developed under the pact between Death Row Pictures and NBCUniversal Entertainment. And expect the film to weave in music from Snoop Dogg’s catalog.
Universal Pictures has set the U.S. release date for Snoop for August 6, 2027. No French release date has been announced yet. The studio has also not disclosed the production schedule or the filming location.
