In City of Blood, Berlin has become a dystopian city-state where vampires truly exist, control organized crime, and now crave political power. Blood has become a genuine currency there. This eight-episode German dystopian series will be available in France on Disney+ from September 16, 2026.

Wreaked by climate chaos, the city is split into two stark worlds. A privileged minority lives sheltered under a fully climate-controlled dome, while everyone else battles brutal heat, corruption and crime. Behind this social order lurks a supernatural power structure: vampires dominate the criminal underworld and are scheming to extend their influence into political institutions.

The series follows Bea and Phoebe, two sisters who were separated in childhood by a tragic event. Bea, who has a chronic illness, grew up in a sheltered environment with her adoptive mother. Phoebe, meanwhile, had to learn to survive on the streets of Berlin.

Their paths cross once more as decisive elections loom overhead. As they probe the forces truly steering the city, they uncover that the blood trade fuels both the economic power and the political ambitions of the vampires. Torn between rival camps, they must decide whether the real threat comes from the supernatural beings or from the humans who sustain this system.

Lea Drinda and Soma Pysall portray Bea and Phoebe, respectively. The cast also includes Franz Hartwig, David Schütter, Jördis Triebel, Jenny Schily, Dagmar Manzel, Melika Foroutan, Mouataz Alshaltouh, Jan Georg Schütte and Lars Eidinger.

City of Blood was created by Philipp Kadelbach and Elena Lyubarskaya. They co-wrote the series with Kim Zimmermann, Daniela Baumgärtl, Martin Behnke, Nicki Bloom, and Tillmann Roth, with Bernd Lange and Niko Schulz-Dornburg also contributing to the writing. Philipp Kadelbach directs all eight episodes.

The series draws inspiration from Berlinoir, a graphic novel by Reinhard Kleist and Tobias O. Meißner. It is produced by Amusement Park Film, a company best known for its work on À l’Ouest, rien de nouveau. Daniel Brühl is among the executive producers, alongside Malte Grunert, Klaus Dohle and Philipp Kadelbach.

By blending thriller conventions, vampire horror, and political dystopia, City of Blood uses its fantastical world to portray a society built on scarcity, inequality, and the commodification of the human body.
