Synopsis: The story begins in 1462. Transylvania is enjoying a period of relative calm under the reign of Prince Vlad III of Wallachia and his beloved wife Mirena. Together, they have negotiated peace and protection for their people with the powerful Ottoman Empire, whose domination continues to expand in Eastern Europe. But when Sultan Mehmet II demands that 1,000 young men from Wallachia, including Vlad's own son Ingeras, be taken from their families to swell the ranks of the Turkish army, the prince must make a choice: abandon his son to the Sultan, as his father did before him, or call on a dark creature to fight the Turks and thereby subject his soul to eternal servitude. Vlad travels to the peak of the Broken Tooth, where he meets a despicable demon and strikes a Faustian bargain with him: he will acquire the strength of 100 men, the speed of a shooting star and the powers necessary to annihilate his enemies, in exchange for which he will be overwhelmed by an insatiable thirst for human blood. If he manages to resist it for three days, Vlad will become himself again, and will be able to continue protecting and ruling his people, but if he gives in to temptation, he will enter the world of darkness for the rest of his life, condemned to feed on human blood and to lose and destroy everything and everyone dear to him.
