Aaah, the Cannes Film Festival. An opportunity to laugh at some films, to cry at others, but also to rack one's brains at some of the works presented here. Whether it's a film about a court case - there were two trial films at Cannes this year, a rarity worth mentioning -, a film about the current misery in certain countries around the world, or a 4-hour documentary about the Nazi occupation of Amsterdam during the war, there's no doubt that some of the feature films unveiled at Cannes 2023 required a lot of brainpower.
If you, too, are keen to rack your brains once these films have been released in cinemas, then treat yourself. All of them won us over, and one of them, Justine Triet's film, even won the Palme d'Or - that's saying something! And yet, nothing predestined this trial film - in which most of the action is based on words - to win over an international jury presided over by Ruben Ôstlund. What a surprise!
