Not only in Official Competition, but also in the Un Certain Regard, Semaine de la Critique and Quinzaine des Cinéastes selections, the Cannes 2023 Film Festival has once again brought some astonishing works to the big screen. Whether in terms of content or form, subject matter or storytelling, or, in the case of certain feature films, the ability to navigate between several genres with ease, we were treated to some completely madcap films.
Whereas Jonathan Glazer chose to deal with Nazi horror without showing a single image of the interior of the Auschwitz camp, Thomas Cailley's second feature is a dazzlingly successful work that straddles a number of genres. At Cannes, Bertrand Mandico presented a film that, as usual, bears no visual resemblance to any other, while Wang Bing let his cameras roll for 3 years in textile manufacturing workshops in China to produce a fascinating 3.5-hour documentary.
If you're the type of person who likes a different kind of movie, you'll want to hit the theaters once these 6 amazing films are released!
