A most unexpected summer 2020 success, and one that could well regain its hype in the days to come... Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout, Devolver's platform game, surprised everyone when it was released in August 2020, soaring up the download charts to become the"most downloaded gameof all time", according to PlayStation France, which announced the news on its Twitter account.
A software that could be back on the download front at the end of June 2022... And with good reason: it's now available free of charge on PC and consoles - on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series and Nintendo Switch, to be precise. But why such success? Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout aims to be similar to Fortnite in its approach to video gaming, namely to offer"Battle Royal", a game mode much favored by gamers at the moment.
The principle is quite simple: you're 60 in an arena, and you have to survive challenges inspired by TV shows like Ninja Warrior, Interville, Takeshi's Castle or Total Wipeout, until you're the last one standing. This unique vision of Battle Royal targets a larger number of gamers, including younger ones (because it's more family-oriented and less coded), through a flashier, more colorful universe that catches the eye at first glance.
"Productions in this genre often involve firearms and very precise codes. "Fall Guys" arrived by exploding these habits in a very fresh way, by being fun and colorful with other types of confrontation", explained for his part Alexis Zema, journalist at jeuxvideo.com to our confreres at Le Parisien, in August 2020. He continued:"Everyone is attracted by this colorful, fun aspect. It's fun for everyone". A success also due to a well-oiled and particularly effective communication campaign. A release date in August, during the school vacations, and a free game for PlayStation+ account holders... "When you release a game that's already eagerly awaited and then make it free for 40 million people, success is guaranteed", recalls Alexis Zema.
All you have to do is download the game!
