The Federal Bureau of Control is making a triumphant return to PC and consoles! Remedy Entertainment revealed the news during the Game Awards, the premier gaming event not to miss this December 11, 2025. They debuted the first trailer for the upcoming sequel to Control, a game set in the universe of Alan Wake yet entirely standalone from the writer’s story. Titled Control Resonant, this uniquely bizarre entry in the gaming world also revealed a tentative release window, expected in 2026 on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series.
An installment officially announced in November 2022, Remedy revealed that they are working on a sequel to Control. As a reminder, this first game appeared unexpectedly in 2019, inviting players to step into the shoes of Jesse Faden, a young woman searching for her brother who was taken by the Federal Bureau of Control, a government agency investigating various paranormal phenomena. Her quest leads her to become the agency's director and to eradicate the Hiss, a kind of supernatural disease, using a range of powers she acquires throughout her journey—telekinesis being the most prominent.
A new installment developed in collaboration with 505 Games, originally known as Heron. "With Control 2, we will take a bold leap into the unknown. It promises to be an unexpected journey," explains Mikael Kasurinen, franchise Game Director. He adds: "This will take some time, but it’s safe to say it’s the most exciting project I’ve ever worked on. It’s still early days, but it will be worth the wait."
What can we expect from the story of this game? According to a photo unveiled by Remedy in 2022, it seems that the "Hiss" might have escaped the confines of the Bureau to overrun New York, in "a distorted Manhattan on the brink of supernatural annihilation." The trailer appears to back this up, showing the player navigating through the city streets outdoors... Well, outdoors... That's a generous term, given how the Old House operates. Also note that you'll be playing as Jesse Faden's brother, Dylan, "fighting to survive and retain his humanity in the face of a cosmic threat that defies reality."
While awaiting its release next year, we're taking another look at the original Control. Get ready to pick up your controllers!
