The end is nigh for the Black Panther video game! Electronic Arts has announced the outright cancellation of the Marvel game, along with the closure of the studio developing it , Cliffhanger Games, as reported byIGN.Electronic Arts president Laura Miele explained in an internal e-mail that the changes were intended to"redouble our efforts and focus our creative energy on the most significant growth opportunities".
Redundancies have also affected employees in the "mobile and central teams". "We're doing everything we can to support them, in particular by offering them opportunities within EA, where we've managed to help them move into new positions", explains Laura Miele, according to IGN. Electronic Arts is trying to reallocate these departures to other positions within the company. And with good reason: the closure of Cliffhanger Studio will compensate for the increase in staff on other teams, with a view to concentrating on its flagship franchises, namely Battlefield, Star Wars Jedi, The Sims and Apex Legends.
What about development of the Iron Man game, also from the publisher? According to Laura Miele, the game revolving around the armored hero remains in development. As for the hero from Wakanda, the project was to mark the 57th anniversary of the creation of the Black Panther comic strip.
As for the game, it had to offer an authentic and definitive experience around the character of Black Panther, offering a tailor-made narrative and giving players more control over the story than in any other story-based video game. Wakanda, the superhero's homeland, was to be at the heart of the game, providing a "sandbox" rich in possibilities for Black Panther fans and those wishing to explore this unique world.
" We want our game to allow players to feel what it's like to be worthy of the mantle of Black Panther in a unique, story-driven way. And we want Cliffhanger Games to empower every member of our team as we collaborate to bring this incredible world to life," said Cliffhanger Games CEO Kevin Stephens'2023.
As a consolation, you can always dive back into the Black Panther DLC in Marvel's Avengers. To your controllers!
