In 1996, the first Pokémon trading card game was released in Japan: a spin-off for a video game, Pokémon Monsters Green and Pokémon Monsters Red. An iconic first title, it spawned a franchise that is now impossible to ignore.
The card game featured the video game's little monsters, and a battle system based on the strengths and weaknesses of a type. Nearly thirty years later, these collectible playing cards are still as popular as ever: they're even about to get a second lease of life with a new digital game.
At Pokémon Presents, broadcast on February 27, 2024, Game Freaks unveiled a new game for IOS and Android, available sometime in 2024. The Pokémon Pocket Trading Card Game offers a digital version of the legendary game.
" Have fun collecting Pokémon Trading Card Game (TCG) cards with Pokémon Pocket Trading Card Game. Collect nostalgic digital cards featuring old artwork, as well as brand-new original cards unique to the Pokémon Pocket Trading Card Game. "
Booster opening, card battles, trading, deck building, special cards: this application takes up the basics of the card game, in a modern version that promises a few surprises.
Two boosters (packs containing several cards) will be offered to players each day. More can be opened on any given day by purchasing additional boosters. New cards will thus be added to your collection, and can join your battles against other players. Game Freak promises original cards, old-fashioned designs for the nostalgic, but also immersive cards that immerse us in the drawing of the card.
Your Pokémon card games are about to enter a new dimension!
