New characters, new karts, new circuits, new game modes: Mario Kart World changes drivers' habits and evolves its universe a little. This opus even offers new features that can change the race standings in the blink of an eye... But you still need to know how to use them, and when...

On social networks and the Internet, you may have seen those Mario Kart World racing videos, where the player overtakes all his competitors by driving over the circuit walls, or sliding over fences and electric wires. With such techniques, these players easily win the competition, leaving you far behind... So it's urgent that you learn these new features, so you can stay in the race... Literally!

Rewind :

This action allows you to go back a few seconds in the game: it's very useful for recovering a part or object missed on the circuit, catching up on a failed action, going back to take a missed exit without turning around... It's even a validated technique for escaping a blue shell! However, while you're going back in time, your opponents are continuing their race as normal, so they can easily overtake you.

To rewind, you need to play with both controllers in hand. This is impossible in local multiplayer, where both players share one controller each. To activate the feature, simply press the down button on the multi-directional crossbar, then release when you've reached your goal.

Loaded jump :

This jump is very useful in this new game. To activate it, simply press the A (gas pedal) and R (usually used for skidding) buttons at the same time. While driving straight ahead, hold down both keys until you see sparks appear, then release the R button.

Driving on walls :

To get off the road and onto the walls, there are several techniques. First, you need to prepare a charged jump, roll up to a wall and release the R key just before impact with the wall, to leap over it. You can also use a feather, an object that makes you jump higher, to reach the wall. Finally, you can use a boost ramp to gain speed and height, and land on the wall.

Slide over rails and fences:

To drive on the rails, use the same technique as above: use a loaded jump to jump onto the rail. Some ramps are accessible directly from the track, with lower entrances at certain points.

Turbo start :

Turbo start allows you to pick up speed right from the start of the race, to break away from the pack. To do this, hold down the accelerator button as soon as the number 2 appears on the display, at the countdown. Caution: if you press and hold the button before the start, you risk engine trouble.

Skidding:

A Mario Kart classic, but one that's always worth mastering to get that little speed boost. When cornering, hold down the R key and keep skidding until sparks appear behind your kart. Blue sparks give a small boost, orange sparks give a bigger boost, and pink sparks give the biggest boost.

To get the hang of these driving techniques, we recommend you drive and experiment in Ride mode. This gives you all the time you need to learn these new features, without the risk of being overtaken or getting a red shell from your opponents.
