Want a closer look at Guernica? From April 8 to September 6, 2026, the Musée national Picasso invites you to experience a virtual reality journey dedicated to the Spanish painter’s masterpiece. This immersive experience offers a new perspective on the story behind this monumental painting that defined the 20th century — from its commission for the 1937 Paris International Exposition to its status as an emblem of peace.
Co-produced by Lucid Realities and VIVE Arts, this immersive experience is designed to engage both the curious and art enthusiasts alike. It guides visitors through a series of pivotal moments and locations to deepen understanding of Picasso’s work. Journey from the Spanish Republican Pavilion, where the piece was unveiled to the public for the first time, to the ruins of the Basque town of Gernika—the site of the bombing that inspired the painting. The journey also includes a visit to Picasso’s Parisian studio at Les Grands-Augustins, where the masterpiece was created.
Journey through this experience guided by the voices of writer Juan Larrea, a member of the Spanish Republican delegation, and surrealist artist Dora Maar, his companion. Since the masterpiece isn't on display in Paris—it's held in Madrid—the virtual reality tour offers a unique way to admire it within the Parisian collections. Accessible for just 7 euros and suitable for ages 10 and up.
