1666: Amsterdam pulls back the curtain further with its dark fantasy world, its two protagonists, and its supernatural investigation mechanics. Panache Digital Games’ narrative action-adventure, led by Patrice Désilets, already offers a free PC prologue ahead of its early access launch later in 2026.

Secrets of Amsterdam are ready to be revealed... 1666: Amsterdam, action-adventure narrative game developed and published by Panache Digital Games under the direction of Patrice Désilets, the creator of the first Assassin’s Creed and of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, is coming soon to PC and consoles. Unveiled at the Summer Game Fest 2026, the title already offers a free prologue on PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store, ahead of early access expected later in 2026. The adventure drops players into a dark fantasy version of Amsterdam, blending sorcery, investigation and supernatural creatures.

The core gameplay hinges on exploration, sleuthing, and cooperation between the two leads. Players primarily control Noa, heiress to an ancient Zaindaris lineage tasked with tracking the creatures nicknamed the Originals. She wields mystical powers and tools to spot supernatural entities hidden behind human façades, piece together clues, and confront the threats looming over the city.

By his side, Aaron now plays a clearly defined role in the adventure. Cast three centuries into the past, he finds himself trapped in the body of a black cat. The two characters are linked across the ages and must work together to uncover hidden truths and fend off an ancient force that threatens the balance of the world. Players will be able to control Aaron during certain segments, particularly to squeeze through tight passages, survey the surroundings, or accompany Noa on her investigations.

1666: Amsterdam reveals its two playable characters in a new gameplay video

Panache Digital Games released on July 29, 2026, a fresh presentation centered on the main mechanics of 1666: Amsterdam, spotlighting the partnership between Noa and Aaron and the complementary abilities that push their story forward.

The studio is highlighting the enduring bond between the two protagonists, despite the centuries that separate them. Noa is driven to fulfill a mission inherited from her lineage, while Aaron wrestles with why he was thrust through time and confined in a feline form. Their collaboration should serve as a central throughline of the narrative, shaping multiple sequences of exploration, investigation, and confrontation.

Synopsis of 1666: Amsterdam

The story unfolds in a dark-fantasy world where, in 1333, pacts were sealed with beings known as the Originals. Three centuries on, these entities still walk among Amsterdam’s residents, hidden behind ordinary human façades. Noa Brooklyn, raised by the Zaindaris to fulfill a destiny she never chose, becomes the Seer and must unmask these occult forces. The narrative shifts across eras, notably 1666, 1999, and the present day. The official game blurb sums up the starting premise: "Every 333 years something awakens (...) Noa, the Seer, wields sorcery to expose demonic entities hidden behind human faces. Investigate by day. Face your demons by night."

Trailer for 1666 Amsterdam:

To accompany this presentation, Patrice Désilets spoke about access to the demo: "Today, we’re finally ready to invite players into this process. The free prologue now available on Steam and the Epic Games Store is only a teaser of what’s to come."

This first playable build lets players explore the basics of the universe, the storytelling framework, and the dynamic between Noa and Aaron. The new gameplay video now offers more detail on their respective roles, without yet revealing all the possibilities offered by their powers and mystical tools. Future previews should shed more light on how this cooperative relationship will steer the course of the adventure.
