The launch of MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls is approaching, but Arc System Works has already pulled back the curtain on part of its post-launch roadmap... The fighting game, due to arrive on PC and PS5 on August 6, 2026, will welcome Cyclops Phoenix as the first additional character in Year 1’s content pass. The news came from a panel held at San Diego Comic-Con 2026, and was later fleshed out on the PlayStation Blog.
This character draws inspiration from the Avengers vs. X-Men arc, where Scott Summers is imbued with the Phoenix Force. Arc System Works says further details about his fighting style will be revealed at a later date.
The new video mostly centers on Phoenix Cyclops, the first expansion slated to follow the game's launch. It reveals this version of Scott Summers harnessing both his famous optic blasts and the powers of the Phoenix Force. His appearance echoes that of the Phoenix Five, with a redesigned suit and flame-infused attacks.
The trailer comes with a new opening sequence inspired by 2000s anime openings. Arc System Works says it aimed to recapture the vibe of fighting-game intros from that era, with kinetic animation and a rock soundtrack.
As a reminder, MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls is a team-based fighting game. Battles pit two factions of Marvel characters against each other and rely on combo sequences, in-match character swaps, and each hero’s or villain’s unique abilities.
Arc System Works has confirmed that Cyclops Phoenix will retain the Cyclops’ signature attacks, notably its optic blasts, while drawing on the powers of the Phoenix Force. That said, the exact in-game mechanics haven’t been revealed yet. The studio plans to share more details on its techniques and gameplay mechanics in the weeks ahead.
Phoenix Cyclops will thus be part of Year 1 content, included in the Year 1 Characters & Stage Pass offered with the Digital Deluxe edition and the Ultimate edition. The pass will include a total of four additional playable characters as well as a new arena.
The PlayStation Blog has also confirmed that a Wolverine Battle Reborn skin, inspired by Insomniac Games’ Marvel's Wolverine game, will be available for free starting September 1, 2026. Arc System Works adds that a host of additional outfits are already planned for after the game's launch.
With this first DLC reveal, Arc System Works is begins to lay out the post-launch roadmap for MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls. The studio still has to unveil the remaining Year 1 characters and their release schedule.
