At the Marché Saint-Pierre, you come looking for one particular fabric and find yourself torn between ten others! In Montmartre, this historic store spans seven floors of fabrics for sewing and home décor, with materials and prices to suit every project.

In Montmartre’s fabric district, the Marché Saint-Pierre goes big. Located at 2 rue Charles Nodier in the 18th arrondissement, right next to the Halle Saint-Pierre, this historic store, also known as Dreyfus, spreads its fabric rolls across seven floors. With several thousand items, fabrics spilling off the shelves and colors as far as the eye can see, you’ll want to set aside plenty of time!

To find your way around, each floor has its specialty. The basement is devoted to clearance items, while the ground floor is home to bargains, including fabric by the meter and discounted fabric remnants. Perfect for making a skirt, trying your hand at your first sewing project or experimenting without blowing your budget.

The first floor is devoted to household linens, followed on the second floor by dress fabrics and materials for haute couture. This is where clothing projects take shape, with cotton fabrics, linen, silk, jersey, velvet, muslin, as well as more playful materials such as tulle, madras and faux fur. An evening dress calls for different qualities than a summer shirt, and the selection makes it possible to compare drape, texture and weight.

The third and fourth floors are devoted to home furnishings. Toile de Jouy, velvet for upholstering chairs, curtain fabrics, sheer curtains and other decorative textiles are on hand for anyone looking to change things up. The fourth floor also features collections from leading textile houses, including catalogues from Dedar Milano, Braquenié and Christian Fischbacher, available to browse and order from.

Another welcome feature is a made-to-measure service on the fourth floor, where you can have curtains, cushions and other textile items made. The store also offers home measuring appointments and wall-hanging installation, a practical option if you’d rather leave the more delicate work to the professionals.

The story of the place dates back to the 1920s, when Edmond Dreyfus roamed the neighborhood with a wheelbarrow loaded with bolts of fabric. The wheelbarrow is long gone, but the fabric business has really flourished!
