What is a TCG and what’s driving this growing enthusiasm?

The Trading Card Game, or collectible card game, is far from a new phenomenon. Its origins date back to 1993 with Magic: The Gathering, which established the genre with rare cards, customizable decks, and regular expansions. The Pokémon boom followed between 1996 and 1999, coinciding with the rise of Yu-Gi-Oh!, propelled by television series and video games that catapulted sales worldwide. Whether it's the thrill of collecting, strategic gameplay, social connections, or the sometimes significant value of rare cards—these simple card games have grown into an enormous industry and a cultural phenomenon of their own.

What can visitors expect at the Kingdom of TCG 2026?

At Hall 3 in Villepinte, the schedule is tailored to suit all interests. On-site, you'll have the opportunity to enjoy:

  • For official and competitive tournaments
  • With a collection and grading area
  • Featuring exhibitor stands and specialty shops
  • Offering animations, talks, and workshops
  • Including a collector networking zone

The TCG tournaments encompass the major licenses: Pokémon, Yu-Gi-Oh!, Disney Lorcana, One Piece Card Game, Star Wars: Unlimited, as well as emerging titles like Riftbound and Rise. To enhance the experience, there are also video game competitions, arcade machines, and virtual reality zones, catering to the more gaming-focused crowd.

The card grading remains one of the most highly anticipated highlights of the event. This official evaluation process certifies a card's condition, quality, and authenticity, directly influencing its market value. Renowned industry players such as PSA and Beckett Grading will be on site to assist collectors with this service. Live box breaks, where booster packs are opened collectively in real time amidst an energetic crowd, are also among the most popular moments at this type of convention.

Who are the distinguished guests at the 2026 edition?

Chris Maple is undoubtedly one of the standout highlights of this year's event. This American designer is the creative mind behind the Pokémon logo, which he designed in 1998 for Nintendo. It’s also his first time participating in a TCG event in Europe, making it a rare opportunity for franchise fans eager to meet the legend himself. Don’t miss it!

Several official illustrators of the Pokémon JCC will also be on hand for signing sessions and photo opportunities:

  • Yuka Morii, known for her unique approach: she sculpts her Pokémon in clay before photographing them within miniature set-ups—an unmistakable style since the Neo Discovery expansion in 2000.
  • Mahou, whose vibrant, clean designs have adorned Pokémon TCG cards since the HeartGold & SoulSilver expansion in 2008.
  • Kurata So, an illustrator renowned for his clear, well-balanced compositions.
  • Gosha, whose artwork gained recognition through an international contest hosted by Pokémon Art Academy.
  • Pani Kobayashi, whose colorful and expressive style has been featured on Pokémon TCG cards since 2019.

The dubbing segment is also lively, featuring Stéphane Excoffier, the French voice of Luffy in One Piece, and Alain Eloy, who voices Roronoa Zoro. These familiar voices, beloved by anime enthusiasts, will surely delight the fans attending the event.

To reach the venue, take the RER B train, which connects directly to the Parc des Expositions station from the center of Paris. By car, exit 2 of the A104 highway leads to the parking areas of the site. Tickets can be purchased on the official Royal TCG website, with prices starting at €24.90 for a day pass. The event opens on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and on Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Children under 8 can enter free of charge.

Fans of conventions and pop culture in Île-de-France, be sure not to miss the Gala TCG 2026, the Paris Manga and Sci-Fi Show 2026, or the Fantasy and Japan Party 2026. Check out all the major fairs and exhibitions in Paris on Sortiraparis.
