La Fête du pain, back soon in Paris ! The world's largest ephemeral bakery is preparing to return to the forecourt of Notre-Dame Cathedral this spring. And for this new edition in the capital, the Fête du Pain will be offering 11 days of demonstrations, events, tastings and discoveries from Thursday May 1 to Sunday May 11, 2025.
We're sure that visitors will be out in force once again, especially as Notre-Dame Cathedral reopened its doors to the public on December 8. After more than five years of closure, following a tragic fire in April 2019, the mythical Parisian monument has been given a facelift. And it's sure to arouse the curiosity of many Parisians and tourists alike. As the monument's public management announced on January 15, 860,000 visitors have already entered the renovated cathedral since its reopening. This daily attendance of 29,000 now exceeds the pre-fire figure for 2019. This 2025 edition of the Fête du Pain, at the foot of the restored Notre-Dame Cathedral, promises to be even better.
This huge ephemeral bakery, set up in a 500 m² tent, is the perfect opportunity for the curious and those with a sweet tooth to find out everything there is to know about the making of bread, pastries and other sweet products, thanks in particular to our friends, the bakers and pastry-makers of Greater Paris, who will be delighted to help you discover their trade through the sharing of convivial and festive moments.
Not all bread sellers have the right to call themselves " boulanger " or " boulangerie ". The Fête du Pain is an opportunity for the profession to showcase its differences, to promote bread made according to the rules of the art, and to remind people that good bread has a name: Pain de Tradition Française.
As a reminder, the Fête du Pain was launched in 1996 on the initiative of Jean-Pierre Raffarin, then Minister for SMEs, Trade and Crafts. Since then, the event has returned every year around May 16, the day of Saint-Honoré, patron saint of millers, flour merchants, bakers and patissiers.
What's on the agenda for this 29th edition of the Fête du Pain ? A reconstructed store, where the bakers of Paris will be on hand to answer all your questions. From the different varieties of bread to the secrets of bread-making, from kneading to baking to shaping... everything, everything, everything, you'll know all about the unmissable baguette, whose craft skills and culture have been officially inscribed on Unesco's intangible cultural heritage list since the end of November 2022!
The Fête du Pain is also an opportunity to take part in demonstrations, competitions ( regional competition for the best traditional French baguette in Greater Paris, national competition for the best sandwich...) and prize-giving ceremonies (best croissant in Greater Paris with Charentes-Poitou PDO butter...), not to mention the many tasting sessions... So, who's for good bread and its secrets?
