As the Ligue 1 championship resumes, Paris-Saint-Germain take on Lorient, a club not to be underestimated. With the mercato not yet finalized and players still getting to know each other, PSG must show their strength in their first match. Where to watch the match?

Which channel to watch PSG-Lorient on? This Saturday, August 12, 2023, the Ligue 1 championship resumes with the counters reset to zero and no one in the lead yet. It's up to Paris-Saint-Germain to prove themselves in their first match, if they are to lead the way in the new season. The Parisians meet Lorient, the Breton club who have sometimes given the team a hard time in the past, even if the statistics are in PSG's favor. The match will be broadcast live from the Parc des Princes on Canal+ Sport 360 from 9pm.

For this very first match of the season, Paris-Saint-Germain have their work cut out. The club, which hasn't lost a league opener in 12 years, has to forge a whole new reputation, with a complete overhaul of the squad and the departure of many of its key players. With Luis Enrique at the helm, PSG is changing face, and the new players will have to get used to living together, after some encouraging warm-up matches. With the mercato far from over, the team is still breaking in and there could be plenty of gaps to fill.

A brief look at today's opponents

Founded in 1926, the club remained amateur for a long time, before turning professional in the late 1960s. However, after filing for bankruptcy, Lorient slipped back down the league ladder, only to climb again in the 1980s to reach D2. Thanks to Christian Gourcuff, the club reached Ligue 1 in 1998 and again in 2001. Despite some fine victories, FC Lorient suffered a number of relegations. It was only between 2006 and 2017 that the club managed to stay in the top flight.

Apart from a Coupe de France in 2002, a particularly prolific year for the Bretons, the club struggled to win trophies, and its best finish in Ligue 1 was 7th in 2010. However, they have proved a formidable opponent on many occasions against Paris-Saint-Germain.
