After Nadal was eliminated in the first round, Roland-Garros once again loses one of its champions, last year's winner. Novak Djokovic 's matches since the start of the tournament and in the final stages have often been long and grueling. In the Round of 16, the Serb managed to defeat Francisco Cerundolo in pain, and had already indicated that he wasn't sure he could continue. He withdrew on Tuesday June 4, leaving Casper Ruud to reach the semi-finals on his own!
Injured to his right knee, the world number 1 lost the cup and his ATP ranking in the process, which he had held for 428 weeks, to Italy's Jannik Sinner, who will have to beat Alcaraz to try and reach the final. Djokovic was badly injured at the start of the second set against Cerundolo, and wished to finish the match, probably aggravating his meniscus injury. As a result, he could miss out on Wimbledon and the Olympic Games, the only prize he has yet to win.
Let's hope this tennis legend recovers quickly, so we can see him on the courts again!
