After the participants in the clay-court tournament, we wondered how much the ball boys and girls earn during the French Open. Well, nothing at all! We explain why.

Roland-Garros is the Parisian clay-court tournament par excellence! While the winner takes home a handsome cash prize, and the tournament players also benefit from handsome bonuses, we wonder how much the ball boys and girls who are present at the Parisian tournament, and who are essential to the smooth running of the clay-court matches, earn. As you'd expect, they don't earn a cent, as they're all miners, passionate about tennis and members of French tennis clubs.

Considered as volunteers, these hundreds of young teenagers, aged 11 to 16, see their month's work as a real opportunity to get up close and personal with the world's best tennis players, and to see matches from a privileged vantage point! Although the French Tennis Federation doesn't pay them, they go home with prizes to thank them for their commitment.

To become a ball boy, you have to pass selections and detection days before the tournament, and undergo several days of training before you can hope to get on the Roland-Garros courts.
