Now, when you think of rafting and canoeing, you're more likely to think of the Gorges du Verdon than the rivers of the Paris region! But we mustn't overlook the superb landscapes of the Paris region, which can be discovered along the water, for quieter adventures that are just as exciting. In the Île-de-France region, the Seine of course, but also the Marne, the Loing, the Juine and the Bièvre are just some of the rivers you can visit, paddling alone or with others.
The advantage of canoeing, even though it's a sport that requires strength in the arms, is that it's accessible to all ages, and makes for great outings with the kids. The region also boasts 12 leisure islands, all of which offer canoeing and kayaking, including Cergy-Pontoise, Port aux Cerises and Vaires-Torcy, which will host the Olympic rowing and canoeing events at the Paris Games.
This outdoor sport, which allows you to be in the heart of nature and explore natural sites that are sometimes otherwise inaccessible, is much appreciated for its peacefulness. It's also a great opportunity to observe the wildlife along the 4,000 km of rivers in the Paris region. Aside from clubs where you can learn the sport, you can also try your hand at paddling on your own, thanks to canoe-kayak rentals!
