Looking for a break from routine? Paris may be an open-air museum, but sometimes it's good to take a break and get away from it all. And just beyond the capital's borders, the Paris region has no shortage of beautiful landscapes and exciting activities to offer us a Dolce Vita in the Parisian style. This time, we're heading to Seine-et-Marne , to the Marne Valley. In this region of rich heritage and lush greenery, Parisians for a day and for ever have the opportunity to go green while discovering the treasures that are sometimes still too little known.
If you've got sea legs, or just feel like taking to the open sea for a river trip, then we're off to the pontoon of theParis Vallée de la Marne nautical base near Noisiel, where theTorcy Canoe Kayak association operates. There, you'll find yourself on the banks of the Marne, in a beautiful green setting for a water sports activity you'd be hard-pressed to resist on a sunny day.
As you may have guessed, here you'll have the choice between canoeing and kayaking. The latter goes faster and is likely to get you wetter, so if you prefer kayaking, we recommend that you dress accordingly, and bring a raincoat. In either case, if you're afraid of taking the plunge, rest assured: there's very little chance that the lazy waves of this calm river will get the better of your craft.
Prices start at just €10 per hour for canoe rentals (€5 for children under 15, and a €25 family pack for two adults and two children), while kayaking and paddleboarding are available for €12 (€8 for children under 15, and €35 for a family package). These excursions offer a unique way to enjoy the scenery and even lead you near the historic Menier chocolate factory, permanently transformed into the City of Taste with a spa and luxury hotel, right in the heart of Noisiel's history. If it’s your first time trying a canoe or kayak, don't worry—our friendly team shares a passion for these activities and the region, ensuring you feel confident and well-supported throughout your experience.
We take the time to accompany you, explain the various maneuvers with lots of enthusiasm and encouragement, and chat. But don't be fooled by the peacefulness of the verdant surroundings: it's a pretty strenuous ride, and you'll be giving your arms a good workout. But your efforts will be amply rewarded by the charm of the surroundings! On the other hand, if you prefer a little more action, we'd recommend a trip to the nearby Vaires Torcy water sports centre, which offers rafting in the heart of a Paris 2024 Olympic Games site.
