Since 1987,the French Association Against Myopathies (AFM) has organized the Telethon, a charity event that aims to fund research projects on neuromuscular genetic diseases in particular, but also on other rare genetic diseases. To help raise funds, atelevised marathon is held every year in early December with the support of France Télévisions. On December 5 and 6, 2025, France Télévisions will broadcast 30 hours of special programming featuring Santa, the patron of this 39th edition of the Telethon.
During these two days, numerous charity events will take place throughout France, including in Paris. On Saturday, December 6, 2025, from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., the Ateliers Gaîté will host an unusual charity event, challenging the firefighters of the City of Paris. For four hours straight, on Level -1 of the Parisian shopping center, they will have to climb a rope as many times as possible. Each time a firefighter climbs the rope, the shopping center will make a financial contribution, with all proceeds going to the Telethon.
During this day of solidarity, the Red Cross will also be present at Les Ateliers Gaîté (level 0) to offer first aid training. This will be an opportunity for visitors to learn life-saving techniques. Finally, younger visitors will be able to explore a fire truck parked in front of the shopping center, on the Truffaut forecourt. Children will even be able to climb aboard, climb the ladder, and receive their "little firefighter" certificate.
