What could be more emblematic than the haka in rugby? This traditional Maori ritual dance, performed before certain matches, is the subject of a participatory concert at the Philharmonie de Paris, during the World Cup.

Before each match against New Zealand, the players take the time to perform a traditional and impressive dance, the Haka, a sung ritual practiced by the Maoris to impress their opponents. Over the years, this moment has become an integral part of rugby, with spectators eagerly awaiting this exceptional pre-match event. During the opening match of the Rugby World Cup 2023 in Paris, this haka will resonate at the Stade de France, and inspire musicians and choreographers for a participatory concert, at the Philharmonie de Paris.

On October 14, 2023, conductor Zahia Ziouani, choreographer Mourad Merzouki and director Laurent Soffiati will bring together amateurs and professionals in a concert combining sport, song and dance. A truly participatory musical and dance show arrives at the Philharmonie for the duration of a quarter-final match, played out like an immense score. Spectators are invited to take part in the experience, with several rehearsals leading up to the big day: Wednesday, October 11 and Saturday, October 14, 2023.
Several large amateur choirs will join this original concert, as a single team in the field, accompanying the artists on stage. Ahead of the concert, you can also watch a giant haka on the forecourt, in tribute to the dances of the Pacific islanders. During this rugby weekend, the Philharmonie has put together a great program on the theme of the oval ball!
