On June 25, 2025, Ado brought her unique voice to theAccor Arena in Paris for a masterful concert in which she proved she's more than just a singer. She is a mysterious icon, a musical phenomenon from Japan, who has conquered an extremely diverse audience of teenagers, 30-somethings and J-pop fans of all ages.
Born in Tokyo in 2002, Ado revealed herself online at the age of 17 with "Usseewa", a track that has become a generational anthem denouncing the hypocrisy of modern society. Since then, she's been building a universe that straddles pop, alternative rock, jazz and EDM, while keeping her image a mystery. She chooses never to show her face in public, usually singing hidden behind a mysterious silhouette.
On this night, Ado appears posed in a metal cage installed on a platform above the stage, while four musicians @kumakitirou on bass, @junji_clave on drums, @okady_jaay on keyboard, @kokei_takafumi on guitar come to life just below. Inside the cage, Ado is revealed only as a mysterious shadow, and performs choreographed routines standing or rolling on the floor, while giant screens broadcastanime images around her.
The main point of the concert was that no photos, videos or recordings were allowed. This bold choice was intended to create a pure link between artist and audience. And the entire audience respected the order, brandishing synchronized penlights instead of telephones, to chant the lyrics in unison.
This concert at the Accor Arena was part of her second world tour, an event in which Ado herself said she was extremely moved to be playing for such a varied audience in Paris. The show kicked off at 8.30pm, without an opening act, and ended at 10.20pm, with encores from 10pm onwards, where she performed a number of memorable covers. And despite the pit seating, the audience rose to their feet throughout the show, singing and dancing, illustrating the electric atmosphere of the evening.
What sets Ado apart is the way she blends extremely varied influences. From the raw energy of punk to the sensibility of pop ballads, she constructs a musical landscape where extremes coexist. Influenced by the Vocaloid scene as well as J-pop and modern rock artists, she boasts an extremely precise voice, spanning over four octaves.
Able to navigate from whispers to strident high notes and rap-like speech rhythms, even guttural sounds bordering on metal, she intensely embodies the emotion of each of her tracks, illustrating the diversity of her unique musical universe.
After a succession of hits such as "Gira Gira", "Readymade" and "Hibana", Ado offered a final encore that was both intimate and spectacular. She covered "Rockstar", then Sia's "Chandelier", before concluding with "Shin Jidai". Between songs, she addresses her audience in Japanese, recounting her past, her first songs recorded in a closet lit only by the light of her screen, and the incomprehension of those around her. With sincerity, she talks about solitude, the weight of other people's opinions, doubt, and invites everyone to never give up on their dreams.
This concert on June 25, 2025 will remain engraved in the memory of the Accor Arena. Ado proved that, beyond her visual mystery, she was above all an artist capable of uniting an extremely wide audience around universal values: passion, resilience and hope. For those who haven't heard of her yet, she is now a major figure on the Japanese music scene.
