David Bowie: his favorite songs revealed in a note discovered in an archive

Ever wanted to know David Bowie's favorite songs? With the David Bowie Centre due to open in London this September 2025, notes have been discovered in the V&A archives revealing the British artist's favorite songs. We tell you all about it.

David Bowie fans are in the starting blocks. On September 13, the David Bowie Centre is due to open at the V&A East Storehouse in Hackney Wick, London. Inside this huge art center dedicated to Ziggy Stardust, fans will be able to discover 90,000 objects linked to the iconic artist.

" The David Bowie archive includes 414 costumes and accessories, nearly 150 musical instruments and other sound equipment, as well as designs, props and sets for concerts, films and theater. Bowie's desk is part of the archive, alongside notebooks, diaries, song lyrics, correspondence, fan mail and over 70,000 prints, negatives and photographic slides," it is announced on the art center's official website. Unsurprisingly, tickets (which are free and available online every six weeks) were snapped up in just a few minutes on September 4, the day the ticket office opened.

To carry out this important project, the V&A's David Bowie archive was meticulously examined. As revealed by NME, a few nuggets were discovered, such as this note listing the late icon' s favorite songs. It reads: " Memo for radio show - list of favorite records ". An opportunity to learn more about the British artist's favorite songs at the time. The list includes Jeff Beck's " Beck's Bolero ", The Beatles' " Across the Universe ", Miles Davis' " Some Day My Prince Will Come ", Roxy Music' s " Mother of Pearl " and Sonic Youth's " Tom Violence ".
