Like every year, this is the event that jazz fans and enthusiasts look forward to; I'm talking, of course, about the Jazz à La Villette Festival. From Thursday August 28 to Sunday September 7, 2025, innovators and creators take to the stages of the Philharmonie de Paris and the Cité de la Musique to amaze and surprise you with a resolutely modern and contemporary musical style. For more than 10 days, jazz takes center stage, in a variety of forms and with a host of guests.
This year, the Jazz à la Villette festival once again deploys the full range of jazz and crosses genres (hip-hop, afrobeat and electronic music), providing a living panorama of a music that is constantly evolving thanks to a unique new program. On the menu for this 2025 edition ? Shabaka, also known by his full name Shabaka Hutchings. A British jazz musician and composer, Shabaka led the group Shabaka and the Ancestors, and before that Sons of Kemet. Shabaka released his first proper solo opus in April 2024. It is entitled"Perceive Its Beauty, Acknowledge Its Grace".
The Jazz à La Villette festival also confirms the presence of Sona Jobarteh, a composer, singer and instrumentalist of Gambian and English origin. She is also the first woman to play the kora professionally.
Other names expected at La Villette from August 28 to September 7, 2025? The famous Malian singer and musician Salif Keïta and Jordan Rakei. The New Zealand and Australian singer, songwriter and producer has released five albums to date, the latest of which is"The Loop" (2024). Not forgetting The Headhunters, jazz-funk legends founded by Herbie Hancock, as well as the Franco-Congolese duo Tshegue and the talented Anne Paceo.
Another piece of news, and not the least, concerns the venue. After a break last year due to the Paralympic Games, Jazz à La Villette returns this year to the Grande Halle de La Villette. As in previous years, the jazz festival will also be held at the Philharmonie de Paris and the Cité de la Musique.
